Sell it to buy more precious metals?

Unlike Gold, can't carry a piano with you, if the need to move abroad becomes an urgent necessity in near future. There may be many people (in a euphoria) offering to trade Gold for Silver, if Silver moves up towards 15-to-1 (or even parity) with Gold price. Then again, if Silver moves to parity with Gold, then optionally just carry the Silver.

Buy (or get a job working) your own turnkey placer gold mine

Post  Shelby on Sun May 31, 2009 4:31 pm

Imagine working your own gold mine and paying yourself in gold everday, while keeping busy and fit and enjoying fresh air.

I bet there are jobs working at these mines also. Maybe could just call these guys and say "can you let me learn and give me a job".

Business ideas for developing markets

Post  Shelby on Fri Dec 11, 2009 2:59 am

As you all know from my posts in the Computer thread of the Technology forum, I am launching internet cafes in developing world.

For you auto mechanics (or those with such an inclination and/or to manage such), there is a severe lack of quality auto repair shops in Philippines. Here in Davao (1.5 million population) there is only one that is affordable and top notch quality (as what we would expect in USA) that you can trust to drop your car and they have the expertise to not do silly things like not use a torque wretch when tightening engine bolts. The name is TirePro.

TirePro is so over subscribed, that you often need to leave your car for 2 - 3 days. Ditto the Isuzu dealer (which is expensive and does inconsistent quality) and the Ford dealership is 3 - 5 times over priced.

There is major money to be made in putting up car repair shops in Asia. Huge volume, I mean you could do 50 cars per day or more in each shop. I suggest you send off your prospective mechanics to a 3 - 6 months vocational mechanics class, then make it a loan they pay off so that you can reduce employee turn over and increase competence. Your employees will love you for this training opportunity. The boys here really need jobs opportunities.

I think the number of cars is doubling ever year here! China just passed USA and Philippines is less developed:

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Chinese-car-market-overtakes-apf-3774294944.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=7&asset=&ccode=

There are so many opportunities like that over here. You will have to find ways to set up the business structure such that you are only 49% partner, but you can work this such that you retain control, e.g. you own all the equipment and lease it to the corporation that you have 49% interest in.

If you hire 10 people here, you get automatic residency. After 5 years, you can get a Philippine passport. Many countries have similar opportunities. Africa should be wide open for opportunities.

As what I see, the developing economies continue to expand at exponential rates of growth. The monetary inflation is just an effect that is going on but doesn't phase them that much, they are accustomed to basic needs (food, fuel) prices rising 20+% per year and wages keeping pace.

And I have the source where you can buy 99.99% pure gold and silver here in Philippines or in Hong Kong, from a central bank certified refinery.

*YOU* can make a big difference and try to teach your employees, so that we don't end up with another copy of the West over here. We can see that PTB are trying to set up a global socialism and tax system:

Thoughts about vending machine business in Colombia

Post  Shelby on Thu Feb 25, 2010 10:14 am

Thoughts I shared with a friend of mine in colombia who is in his late 20s and trying to start an income business with about $70,000 in capital. He had also tried netcafes and decided it wasn't a good business.

Perhaps a big difference here in Philippines, is there are so many
kids here, I mean the malls are packed with ninos. What sells here are
candy vendor stalls in center of mall corridors with a large selection of
wild candies from China. I don't see any obscure vending machines hidden
away in stores.

I would put vending machines in apartment complexes, where it is too
far/inconvenient to travel to a store. Vending machines have a high
capital cost, I would be careful with testing this business first.

People always need a place to live. Advantage of apartments is put
laundry mat, vending machines, convenience store. Problem all these
businesses is they are low-tech, so you compete on location and price, not
on brains (for the most part).

A good business seems to be appliance+motorcycle store selling on credit.
And so many after sales support incomes from that. I hate to sell on
credit (to encourage people to take on debt), but that is what is popular.

Full service apts are becoming popular in business cities such as Hong
Kong, where professionals don't have time to clean.

My friend in States near Mexican border does very well with hardware
store, also selling guns and renting equipment. Your inventory is like a
bank and does not lose value. Need friendly and helpful employees.

Haircut and coloring salons in malls with nice ambience and good equipment
and service (massage the head when wash, massage the shoulders before cut,
etc) are always busy with customers. But you need to train your people
well. Consistency is the key.

Auto parts store is probably a very good business, about like hardware
store, but less space needed since people call up and pick up the part.
Delivery boys will help.

I will stay in software. With only my fingers and brain, I can reach a
customer market in the billions. I can think of no other business that
has that potential. The disadvantage is that anyone with fingers and a
brain can compete, so you have to be on top of everyone else in your
marketing/trend insight and technical abilities.
